Determined to reclaim their lead, Team White stormed the ice at the Mercedes Benz arena this morning and didn’t let up during the hour of play. They crushed Team Black 7-1 in Game 2 of the House League U9 playoff series. It’s 1-1 heading into tomorrow’s final.
“I may be heading to Bali, but I’m dreaming of a White Christmas,” said victorious Coach Magnus Tedestedt. “My boys were on fire this morning demonstrating to the crowd that they deserve to be on top of the podium - well, if in fact we had a podium.”

“I may be heading to Bali, but I’m dreaming of a White Christmas,” said victorious Coach Magnus Tedestedt. “My boys were on fire this morning demonstrating to the crowd that they deserve to be on top of the podium - well, if in fact we had a podium.”
Tedestedt’s warning to Black Head Coach Matt Bradley after Game 1 to, “watch his back” seemed very fitting this morning as White dominated throughout most of the match.
Black grabbed the lead at 23:00 of the first period on an unassisted goal by #22 Dylan Eliason. It seemed that Black was ready to silence their skeptics after their win in Game 1, but momentum swung in the second period to the boys in White.
The Finnish Firecracker #11 Joakim Almi lived up to his name with a goal to end the first period and another to start the second. Then Assistant Captain Ben Matts fired one from the blue line with such force that Black goalie Sutton Shelly never saw coming.
White’s rampage continued with George Whissell’s unassisted goal at 22:00 of period 2. (That other Canadian who wears #87 would have been impressed by George’s determination.) Number 88 Matty Lee added a goal to his earlier assist, quickly followed with another by Ben Matts. Four goals in a row by the little Canucks had this Canadian Press reporter humming Oh Canada under her breath.
With a minute left in the game, #52 Joshua Cheng’s goal, assisted by Viggo Keden gave his team lucky #7 and the win.
“It’s not over til it’s over,” said an always optimistic Matt Bradley, Head Coach Team Black. “I have faith in my boys - don’t count us out yet.”
